If you think of it as selling out, you’re not cool. Hundreds of tweeps are participating. D-list celebs Hugh Hefner’s ex-girlfriend Holly Madison from The Girls Next Door, Kim Kardashian, Bethenny Frankel from The Real Housewives of New York City and The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, the orange-haired comic with a bag facelift Carrot Top. There are a some rockstars that I have never heard of: Kimberly Cole, Ernie Halte, and Hypnogaja. Web celebs are all over it, too. @alohaarleen, @youngmommy, @tamar and @ChrisPirillo are on the Sponsored Tweets bandwagon, too.

How’s that for peer pressure?

rain-flowerI’m back to where I was this time last year. It came on later this time, but I’m in the funk of forty thousand years. I’m pretty sure this lower dose of Effexor is not enough in the dark days of Washington fall and winter.

Dr. J, per my request and his concern, has referred me to a psychiatrist. After I got the referral in the mail, I looked him up. His bio lists “Special Interests: psychotic illnesses.” Point taken.

I’m no good with mental health professionals. Just making the appointment makes me feel like I have lost control.

Because  I have. I’m not on the edge, but it could come at anytime.

It’s feels like an admission of weakness. Because it is. I cannot help myself any longer. I need more assistance. It’s good for my household that I have a neutral third party evaluation.

Don’t let me talk myself out of it.

Here’s how my imagination sees this appointment playing out:
I will get defensive and try to convince Dr. A that I am not, in fact, suffering from his special interest, psychotic illnesses. I’ll talk a lot without looking him in the eye. I’ll tell him about the books I’ve read in The Highly Sensitive Person: How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You. I’m sure it won’t take him long to tell me that I’m right. Except in being right, I am suffering from neurotic illness. Hopefully,  it will end with a trial of a new medicine regimen and infrequent appointments.

Loving the Rain photo by Clearly Ambiguous on Flickr

My friend Angie shared this with me last week. It was a huge hit at our house. It’s a winning combination of cake on top of pie.

Powered by Whrrl
  • 1 – 15 oz can of pumpkin
  • 1 – 14 oz can of evaporated milk (NOT condensed)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 4 tsp of pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup butter (melted)
  • 1 – 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour a 13 x 9 x 2 pan.
Mix the first five ingredients together (pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, pumpkin pie spice, and sugar).
Pour this mixture into the greased pan.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the pumpkin mixture.
Sprinkle the nuts evenly over the dry cake mix.
Bake for 1 hour, or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.
(You can pull the cake out after baking 30 minutes to cover with aluminum foil, so that the nuts do not burn).

Nokia Intrigue Pros

This phone is eye candy. The combination of a touch screen and flip phone is a clever idea. I see teens around town using this phone and hear it is “the” phone to have in junior high. It has a slim profile with a sleek laser-cut keypad. The user menus are well planned.

On the Pink version, the directional pad is flower-shaped. My daughter was enamored. The silver is more masculine and trendy. The LCD touch screen on the front is great for scrolling through music. The screen displays a large font that makes song titles and text messages easy to read.nokia 7205 intrigue

Nokia Intrigue Cons

The battery life is extremely short. This phone needed to be charged after a half a days worth of normal operation. This surprised me because all the Nokias I have owned have had excellent battery life. The shiny black shell is nice but shows fingerprints. I felt like I was wiping in down constantly. The charging slot has a cover that is very difficult to remove. The in call sound quality fluctuates a lot. It would be clear on one call and static the next. The keypad looks sleek and stylish but it is troublesome when texting. I did not have any problems with the software freezing as others have reported.

sandisk micro SD cardUnder $10, it’s the perfect gift for anyone who has a mobile phone. It slips into your phone and lets you capture, store and carry hundreds of media items.

SanDisk 2GB MicroSD Card for $6.99

SanDisk MicroSD CardPros

A tiny media that has more stoarge capacity than college computer. This holds about 500 mp3 songs. That’s enough for me and some kid’s music for those boring waiting rooms. There is also plenty of space for fuzzy Blackberry photos. I have been buying SanDisk products for a long time. Their microSD cards hold up to their 20 year reputation.

The prices are so low, $6.99 for 2 gigabytes! If you need more storage, they are available high capacity (SDHC) 4 GB, 8 GB and 16 GB. I found a 16 GB for $39.99. I paid twice that price for a 4GB SD card for my camera a little more than a year ago.

1 gigabyte is 1024 megabytes or more than 1 billion bytes.

SanDisk MicroSD Card Cons

The tiny size amazes me but can be just as troublesome as good. It was difficult for my husband to maneuver the tiny cards into the slot on his phone. It’s a worthwhile tradeoff, though.
